John Clay is a webdesigner, artist, writer, and editor. He provides his design services on a freelance, contract basis, and enjoys working in a wide range of settings—from corporate to nonprofit, from local to national—on big projects and small. His technical skills include web and identity design, user experience, project management, information architecture, HTML, CSS, Adobe CS, Mac OS and Windows, writing, copyediting, image editing, and fine art painting and assemblage.
John has delivered consultations or services to a wide range of institutions, including JRH Marketing Services, New York NY; International Center, New York NY; Twin Cities Daily Planet, Minneapolis-Saint Paul, MN; University of Minnesota School of Dentistry; Park Press, Saint Paul MN; and Peace of Selby Alaskan Wilderness Resort.
After formal training in anthropology at Notre Dame University and in music composition at New England Conservatory and Washington State University, John further developed his ideas through visual art and philosophy. Theory, design, and implementation are the constants among all these pursuits, and logic, elegance, impact are the core ideals which guide his work. His photos and paintings have shown at Corazon in Minneapolis, Chashama in New York City, and Out of the Blue Studio in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
John's article "The Deep Difference Between Labor and Use-Value" was published in July 2006 in Science & Society journal. His interview with artist Chuck Close "Finding the Color World" is published online at Artzar.com. His copyediting experience includes book-length manuscripts, magazine articles, website copy, and promotional brochures.
John is the founder and webmaster of bhag.net and democraticpromise.org and has worked as Temporary Webmaster for International Dairy Queen Companies summer of 2008 and Manager of Web & Information Systems for The Explorers Club in New York City 2003 to 2006. He is now based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and performs design work for clients anywhere in the world via phone and internet.
